I think that as parents we amaze ourselves with the degrees that we will go to appease our little ones!
It’s Father’s Day, Summer solstice, and both Hubster’s dad and my stepfather’s birthday today. That being said, we’ve spent most of the morning on the telephone and the other part of the morning eating and cleaning up after Pelé. This summer will be a busy one with me shooting two weddings, family visiting, a trip to Oregon, a trip to NYC, two personal weddings (attending), my best friend is having a baby, all of this on top of frequent trips to the lake, play dates, making ice cream, and hovering over our little 19 month old as he rides his little Bumble bee along with the neighborhood kids on their go-carts, scooters, plasma cars and skate boards. They are just crazy about him and they tend to ride slow going down the hill when he rides with them. I of course hold on to his shirt to keep him from accelerating too much. He feels like such a big kid– it just warms my heart to see. I can remember being their ages (7 and 11) and not wanting to be within 2 inches of a baby– what a pain. But not these children– they actually play and talk to him. I’m foreseeing lots of cookies and cupcakes being distributed in the fall to these sweet fairy children. They don’t even swear!! They’re nothing like NYC children. Continued…

My first loaves in our new home. I'm home.
It has been a long mental hibernation for me. As many of you know, I gave up TV and Internet in observation of Lent this year. It was 40 quiet days of reading, playing with my little one and a bit of much needed prayer and reflection. During that period, we moved out, my mother visited, we moved in and now we have arrived at a new pit stop– we are parents to a One and a half year old. I am on my way to no longer citing my son’s age in months. He was 9 months in the womb, 12 months, a baby, out of the womb, and now at 18 months a toddler and 6 months from being a 2 year old, hence, the year and a half. I started to make a list of things that he now does so that I can list them here and never forget. Of course I can no longer find that piece of junk mail that I jotted the list on so I will try to remember. Continued…

Here is the niche from which our Oaktownies blog has been served these past few months, but no more. We are moving to a new apartment this weekend, and the blog will be down. We will return soon, and once we are settled have more to write about. Good night for now.

This is how we begin every morning. Mama, Pelé and his truck (Papa’s been up for an hour)
-
-
Pelé in his favorite little niché of our living room. It has a great view of all of the cars parked outside.
-
-
Preparing Papa’s Lunch in his Mr. Bento.
-
-
Playing with his wheely toys while I prepare Papa’s lunch.
-
-
Saying bye-bye to Papa by the stairs.
-
-
With Papa gone, it’s Pelé’s time to eat (oats with bananas, cream, and flax meal).
-
-
My breakfast- polenta with cheese and salami (I’m sick of oatmeal)
-
-
Music is 9:30am…
-
-
Sweet naked little feet.
-
-
Socks are on.
-
-
Shoes are on.
-
-
Jacket is on…final moments of truck-play before our departure.
-
-
Up, Up in the Ergo.
-
-
Time to go…
-
-
On our walk to music.
-
-
Being carried away in the Ergo…life is rough.
-
-
On the way to music class I caught a glimpse of us in a car.
-
-
The entry to our music class.
-
-
These day we hesitate before walking into rooms.
-
-
Finally at music class. Yes it is a shared piano. Yes Pelé has been known to dominate the “shared” piano.
-
-
On the way home from music, we like to stop at the park. Someone donated a water table and placed it in the sand pit (great for mud pies).
-
-
Trotting along on the way home from the park.
-
-
He’ll never walk on a path again (thanks Papa!)
-
-
Checking out the trees that he will someday climb.
-
-
Searching for the “treasures” that Papa revealed to him.
-
-
Yes Papa…you’ve got your little boy (see “Walk In The Park” post)
-
-
Yup, he fell in the mud.
-
-
Coming in…
-
-
Washing hands having fallen in the mud a number of times.
-
-
The Love Bug naps. So I return e-mail, have tea, clean the dishes, clean the living room, clean diapers…oh, the choices…
-
-
Pelé’s play area in our living room before…
-
-
After (exhale)
-
-
Dishes to be cleaned…
-
-
Pots to be cleaned…
-
-
When the love bug wakes up, he’s got work to do (just kidding, he just gets wet while I clean).
-
-
We get the mail and Pelé gets his.
-
-
A nice visit from our friends.
-
-
There was a kissy-fest on our couch.
-
-
Another visit from friends (visiting from out of town).

-
Little Miss with the Marachas!
-
-
Little Miss and Pelé
-
-
Little Miss and Pelé have shared moments of play.
-
-
Papa arrives home in time to dry Pelé off and for all of us to hear the presidential address to congress. Yes, there are bunny ears on our HD TV. We don’t have cable and we’re not quite sure how the whole HD thing works.

G’night Love Bug.
